Iraqi Private Banks League, Union of Arab Banks Host Annual Compliance Management Meeting

The Union of Arab Banks, in collaboration with the Iraqi Private Banks League, held the annual meeting of the Compliance Management Experts Group under the theme "Towards Enhancing International Trust in Iraq’s Banking Sector."
Leading bankers and experts in compliance and risk management have participated in the event, aiming to highlight mechanisms for adhering to international banking standards and promoting financial transparency.

The meeting witnessed intensive discussions focused on U.S. Treasury requirements and Central Bank of Iraq regulations, along with the latest methods in anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF). Participants also explored strategies for strengthening correspondent banking relationships and leveraging technology to improve banking compliance and financial oversight.

Speakers—including Dr. Mahmoud Dagher; Dr. Ali Atta, a specialist in combating money laundering and terrorist financing; and Abdul Sattar Al-Najjar, a criminal justice and crime prevention official at the UN Office on Drugs and Crime—emphasized the need for continued collaboration between Iraqi banks and international regulatory bodies to ensure full compliance with global standards, which contributes to enhancing the banking business environment in Iraq and fostering stronger ties with global financial institutions.

Ali Tariq, Executive Director of the Iraqi Private Banks League, stressed the importance of developing human resources in compliance and risk management in the banking sector, which would positively impact the banking sector.
