The Iraqi Private Banks League, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Iraq and with funding and implementation from the Financial Inclusion for Economic Restart and Integration in Iraq (FI) project—executed by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ)—has launched the "Masrafuna (Our Bank) app and the Smart Financial Assistant."
The digital platform aims to enhance financial awareness and introduce banking services in Iraq. The launch event was attended by the Head of the Financial Inclusion Department at the Central Bank, representatives from the European Union, GIZ, and several banks and financial institutions.
Ali Tariq, Executive Director of the Iraqi Private Banks League, stated that the application marks a significant step in expanding access to essential financial services for all Iraqis, indicting that users can easily explore banking products and benefit from the Smart Financial Assistant, which provides comprehensive information on financial management.
Tariq emphasized that this launch is the first step toward building a more inclusive financial ecosystem. Plans are in place to expand the app's scope to foster greater interaction with financial and banking institutions, thereby improving financial culture across Iraqi society.
On his part, Lennart Derieder, Head of Cooperation at the European Union, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Iraq in enhancing financial transparency and advancing digital banking services, noting that access to financial services is no longer a luxury but a fundamental necessity for empowering individuals and achieving sustainable development.
Meanwhile, Lutz Zimmermann, Country Director of GIZ, highlighted the importance of financial awareness as a key tool for improving banking services. He described "Masrafuna" as a pivotal initiative that facilitates financial transactions and reduces hesitation in using banking services.
