The Iraqi Private Banks League, in collaboration with the Prime Minister's Office and the Central Bank of Iraq, organized the First National Campaign Forum aimed at promoting electronic payment culture, as part of efforts to advance the shift towards digital financial transactions.
This forum focused on the "Asraflak" campaign, supported by electronic payment companies and banks.
During his address, Ali Tariq, the League’s Executive Director, reviewed the journey of electronic payment in Iraq, noting that recent government decisions have significantly boosted demand for bank cards and point-of-sale (POS) systems, fostering the adoption of modern payment methods.
A panel discussion featured officials and experts, including Ammar Abdul Moneam, Director of Government Communication, who revealed that 780 government institutions currently utilize electronic payments. He added that the next phase would prioritize expanding this technology's use among university and school students.
Ahmed Al-Hashimi, Deputy Executive Director of the League, emphasized that Iraq’s banking sector has globally advanced infrastructure for electronic payments. However, he stressed the need to simplify procedures for payment companies to enhance their operations within government institutions.
The forum aligns with ongoing efforts by governmental and banking entities to promote financial inclusion and encourage the Iraqi community to adopt modern payment methods, contributing to a more sustainable economy.
