The Iraqi Private Banks League, with the support of the Prime Minister's Office and under the auspices of the Central Bank of Iraq, organized a workshop titled "Promoting Electronic Government Collection". The workshop was attended by His Excellency the Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Ali Al Alaq, the Director General of the Information Technology and Payments Department at the Central Bank, Mr. Adnan Asaad, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Investment Committee, Hassan Al Khafaji, and the Chairman of the Iraqi Private Banks League, Wadee Al Handal, along with more than 650 participants from officials in ministries, government institutions, and employees working in finance and revenue collection departments. Mr. Ali Al Alaq, the Governor of the Central Bank, stated that "the launch of the electronic collection project reflects the commitment of the Central Bank, banks, and financial institutions under its supervision to implement its vision and strategic objectives for the development of the financial and banking sector." He also added that electronic revenue collection contributes to enhancing government resources because its collection is conducted through a reliable, secure, and transparent environment due to the payment systems and electronic payment platforms provided by the Central Bank and licensed payment service providers. Adnan Asaad, the Director General of the Payments Department at the Central Bank of Iraq, mentioned that 558 government entities use electronic payment tools in their departments, especially since the number of issued cards until September 2023 exceeded 18.5 million cards. Additionally, he confirmed that the total collection using electronic payment for government institutions in 2023 amounted to 418.3 billion dinars through 586.8 thousand transactions.
