League Holds Forum to Introduce Green Technology Selector (GTS)

The Iraqi Private Banks League held a specialized forum bringing together vendors and companies operating in renewable energy and green technology, with the aim of introducing the Green Technology Selector (GTS) and highlighting its role in helping companies and banks access finance-eligible green solutions and technologies.

The forum was organized by the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management on behalf of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with funding from the European Union and in cooperation with the Iraqi Private Banks League.

The forum was attended by Dr. Ali al-Lami, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Environmental Affairs and Climate Change, along with representatives of banks, companies, and vendors operating in the green technology and energy sectors.

The GTS platform and its application process were presented during the forum, alongside an overview of the technologies and solutions it covers. Discussions also addressed the benefits the tool offers companies and banks, particularly in facilitating the identification of suitable green solutions, supporting investment and financing decisions, and expanding access to green finance.

The forum was held as part of the Iraqi Private Banks League’s efforts to strengthen the banking sector’s role in financing the transition toward a more sustainable economy and to encourage banks to develop financing products and solutions that respond to the needs of companies and projects operating in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean technology.

The forum also marked an important step toward strengthening engagement between the banking and private sectors and green technology providers, while creating a more enabling environment for expanding green investment in Iraq, in line with national and international sustainability and climate action priorities.

The Iraqi Private Banks League reaffirmed its continued support for initiatives that contribute to the development of green and sustainable finance and strengthen the capacity of Iraq’s banking sector to finance projects that help build a more efficient, sustainable, and climate-resilient economy.
